Episode 73: Finding a Positive Gym Community & How to Train Sustainably for Life with Clint Hartley from Hybrid Performance

Today I’m joined by Clint Hartley, owner and head coach at Hybrid Performance gym in Canberra. Clint’s focus on holistic health and wellbeing has translated seamlessly into the gym environment where he lives and breathes a philosophy of creating long lasting results for his clients through a strong emphasis on the three pillars of health; Movement, Recovery and Nutrition.
Clint understands that we’re all busy, and when we do have the time to hit the gym, it’s important we get that most out of our time there, which means quality training, coaching, and education is a must.
However, most people find gyms quite intimidating and the fitness culture perpetuated in many places can make it less inviting for people who want to move just to feel good, and not necessarily always focus on aesthetic goals.
If you really want a healthy body and mind, it’s important to find the right gym environment to support that and also good coaches who will teach you sustainable habits and training practices that will help you thrive.
That’s why I’m super excited to have Clint on to discuss:
- How he got started in the fitness industry
- The good and bad sides of fitness culture
- How to find a positive gym community
- Quality versus quantity training and the impacts on the body and mind
- Are all fitness challenges really a bad idea?
- What training sustainably looks like in real life

Hybrid Performance Gym
Hi, I’m Clint- owner of Hybrid Performance in Canberra.
I take great pride in having the opportunity to help people create a healthy lifestyle that fits into a busy schedule, rather than one that takes over it.
I am passionate about helping our members better understand their body and how they can best become healthy, improve aches and pains, look and feel their best while having a good time doing so.
Much the same as my goals for our members, although a gym owner, it is just one part of my life, not the whole of it. Outside of work I love getting outdoors, meeting new people, playing with your doggo and exploring new beaches, cafes, waterfalls and hikes.
Living a healthy lifestyle is a passion of mine, one that I am very, very fortunate to have been able to make a career from teaching others how to do the same.
